Branch Trustee
We are a welcoming group of Trustees, who currently have over 100 years of service between us. Branch Trustees hold a voluntary position and ensure the effective governance and strategic direction for the welfare of rescued animals. Your expertise will help to shape and guide the Branch as you actively participate in monthly meetings usually held remotely, with the occasional in person meetings. There are optional extra projects/work streams that Trustees can get involved with as much or as little as you want.
We can have between 5-12 Trustees who are usually elected at an Annual General Meeting (AGM, usually held in June). We attempt to balance the skill set of our Trustees and we are looking for individuals of high calibre, dependable and diplomatic approaches. You will bring excellent communication skills, an understanding of robust governance and hold a clear commitment to animals and their welfare.
We are looking for the following skills, which by no means is an exhaustive list:
- Project management
- People management including HR and legislation
- Financial/accountancy
- Retail management
- Fundraising and income generation
- Business management and development
- Social media and marketing
You must be a current RSPCA Member (minimum Member time of 3 months before being eligible for election), and membership costs are currently £24 per year for a single adult or £750 for lifetime membership. Alternatively, £36 per year for a joint adult membership or £1,000 for lifetime membership. (Prices correct as of April 2025).
We welcome applications from all ages (over 18), all cultural and social backgrounds, who are enthusiastic, skilled, committed and with a passion for animal welfare. Please do get in touch with us to discuss further, we would love to hear from you.
Animal Fosterer
We don’t currently have an animal centre, cattery or kennels, so all animals that come into our care are looked after in foster homes until they are rehomed. Fosterers are an essential role in the Branch and we couldn’t provide any care for our animals without them.
As long as you have some free time and would be able to commit to being able to take a foster animal, including taking them to a local vet during usual working hours, we would love to hear from you. There is no cost for fosterers as we provide all food, medicine, veterinary care and equipment.
If you are in rented accommodation we will need written permission from a landlord and all fosterers must be over the age of 21. Any current pets in your home must be vaccinated and neutered. Both the needs of the animal and you as a foster carer will be matched to ensure the best success for both of you.
